Perhaps you were class president in high school. Or perhaps you were a member of the honor society. You could have graduated in the top percentile of your graduating class; perhaps you were even valedictorian. Maybe you were in the honors program or the International Baccalaureate program. Actually, it doesn't really matter what you did in high school as you make the transition to college. High school success (or lack of it) doesn't automatically apply to college.  College life can become a great struggle because students have to balance school, a social life, and sometimes a job as well.  Dr. Freeman in his new book entitled Lecture Notes: A Professor’s Inside Guide to College Success will give you the practical tools you need to help you through the process of college life.

Dr. Freeman reveals the three rules for college success.  If the reader consistently and conscientiously follow the rules throughout college they will ace courses and be able to open doors to get what they want in life.  First rule is “Go to class” even when you don't feel like it. Just go. You might get participation points, and the professor will also get to know you better. It will keep you in the flow of the class, and prepare you for anything that might come along.  Second rule is “Read the books.”  Basically read all of the materials and not to fear hard work.  Finally the third rule is "Talk to your professors.”  This is very important to have an open dialog with your Professors.  After all, they are the one’s that want you to succeed.  They are working for the students.  Dr. Freeman makes it clear to pick up at least three professors and develop a professional, but sincere, relationship with them.

This is a book filled not just with advice, but with actual facts on how to take good notes during a lecture, how professors grade papers, and even how to prepare for tests and exams.  The book is written in a very readable tone that I think students would appreciate. The author uses humor and anecdotes effectively and never comes across as stuffy or condescending. Dr. Freeman presents his material narratively, as well as employing lists to help focus readers' attention.  This book is perfect for students already in college, those getting ready to attend a university, or even teens who are beginning to think about which college they'd like to attend, the Lecture Notes: A Professor’s Inside Guide to College Success is a must-have!
