Sandi Perry sets her characters in motion with zest, zeal
and zing as she peeks into the close-knit personal space of rich, famous, and
talented A-listers in her exquisite romance novel Love Doesn’t Play by the Rules.
Put on your Hermes scarf we’re going to Tiffany’s! Off in the awaiting limo to go shopping is
the lifestyle of the Manhattan socialite Cassandra Whitney, known to her inner
circle simply as Cassie. She wasn’t born
with just a silver spoon in her mouth; she had the entire place setting. With brains, drop dead gorgeous good looks,
and as elusive to the scores of men trying to trophy her as a linebacker
running to the end zone, she is caught in the whirlpool of romance with the #1
voted sexiest bachelor movie star Jonny Duponi.
Cassie, doing what she always has done by playing hard to get, added fuel to the fire-burning-desire inside the testosterone overdosed heartthrob
Jonny. Use to always getting what he
wanted with his cool-o-rama techniques, Jonny wasn't able to get Cassie where
he wanted her – between the sheets. Control
became overturned once Cassie realized she really was the prey, not the predator
as she so commonly believed. Her world
became dismantled, love peeled apart layer by heart-felt layer, and her values were
re-established in a new hierarchy of importance.
Sandi Perry writes wonderfully using the vernacular and a
dialogue-rich storytelling style to embellish the most intimate moments of her
beautiful characters. The reader becomes
a “fly on the wall” hearing and seeing Cassie, her friends; her employees all
talk and interact within the lifestyle so commonplace among the upper echelons
of society. The pages of Love Doesn't Play by the Rules turn like
peddles of a bouquet of roses being plucked while the children’s poem “She
loves me, she loves me not,” resonates in the reader’s mind.
I must say this book is a delightful “time out”
and a lovely way to immerse your emotions vicariously into the hearts of Cassie
and Jonny. After all, it’s why we love
to read romance novels, isn’t it?
