Today we are talking with author Behzad Almasi of “Kill the Palestinian…!!? Kill the Israeli…!!?.”
PBR: What nationality are you and where do you live?
I am Iranian and I live in Ghochan – IRAN.
PBR: What age level students do you teach and in what kind of environment?
I teach students between 11-14 years old. It’s about 26 years that I work as a teacher. Most of these years I taught my students in villages.
PBR: You talk about the mountainous villages of your city, are you a traveling teacher or do you go for extended periods of time and teach?
In small villages we have both boys and girls in the same class, but in larger villages school for boys and girls are separated and in such villages I taught in schools for boys. Because I live in Ghochan city, I travel every morning to my schools in villages.
PBR: Tell me about your students. Boys and girls? What kind of questions do they ask about these issues?
Perhaps 10 years ago my students boys and girls were accepted this situation, but now they believe that they could change their future through studying and education.
PBR: How did you come to your philosophical beliefs? Are they spiritually based and if so what religion forms the basis of them? If not spiritually based, what philosophers or teachers formed your beliefs?
My ideas are spiritually based. I live in a land with Muslim religion, but I believe in humanity and I think for my students and also other students all over the world without paying attention to their religion, race, color, and …. Etc. I think to a criteria that we call if Humanism.
PBR: Is English your native language? And if not, what is the translation process?
No, my native language isn’t English. My native language is Persian (Farsi). For translating my books from Persian to English I use some translating institute. In these translating institute you can translate from Persian to about 40-50 different languages and you have to pay money for their services.
PBR: Are the characters in your stories drawn from people you’ve met in your travels?
Some of characters in my stories drawn from people I’ve met in my travels, but some of characters are imaginary. I think about them and create them.
PBR: You writing style is very understated? What writers have influenced you?
It’s better for me to say I never try to follow other writers style. Everything that I write is something originated from my soul and my beliefs.
PBR: What would you like readers to know about you?
I like my readers think about every story and also think about the purpose of every story. Because my stories have a special purpose.
PBR: What concrete call to action would you ask of your readers?
As a teacher I always like learn good things to my students as a form of stories. I would like to ask my readers what you learnt from these stories?
PBR: Do you have another collection of stories in the works?
This collection is my second book. My first book “ Nightmare in the limbo of Halloween “ is a mysterious fiction. I still work on my third book, but it’s not a collection of short stories. I think it will be ready in next few months.
