Pacific Book Review

Ever since the success of the Twilight series, books centered around vampires have been flooding the shelves. Some of them are dull, while others are a fun and quick read. Blood Lovers falls into the latter category. The novel focuses on Andrea and Shane. Shane whisks Andrea away from her normal, mundane life to fulfill a prophecy. The prophecy states that only a pure half-blood could defeat an ancient evil that has been plaguing the vampire world for centuries. Andrea and Shane start off on the wrong foot, mainly because Shane kidnaps her to bring her into the vampire underworld. But they soon realize that the only way they’ll save the world, and themselves, is to trust each other 100 percent.

As the characters go through multiple emotions, so do the readers. When Andrea is nervous or angry, the reader can feel her rage coming off of the page. When Shane starts developing strong feelings towards Andrea, the readers feel as if they’re the ones in love. Author K.E. Thomas creates a vast society beneath what we know of as the real world. This society is where the dark and sexy vampires we learn to love dwell.

This novel involves a classic story that’s been done since the beginning of time, the story of good vs evil. Of course the main evil is the ancient villain that Andrea and Shane are trying to defeat. Additionally, there are side characters which cause the readers to question what makes someone good and what makes someone bad? This is a general theme throughout the book, causing the reader to question stereotypes and societal norms.

I think anyone would love this book, regardless if they’re in love with vampires or not. I was obsessed with Twilight and the slew of vampire-themed books that followed. I recommended that everyone read Blood Lovers since it transcends so many genres. It’s a love story, a tale of good vs evil, a vampire thriller, a book about the dark underbelly of an unknown underground world, and a tale of adventure. Everyone would love to read this book, since it has something for all. It allows you, as a reader, to escape into another world. This book draws you in and has you rooting for Andrea and Shane until the very last page.
