Brim’s Justice is the story of a decorated wounded Korean War veteran who returns home to continue courageously battling for justice as a police officer, as he pursues a career in law. He followed in his father’s footsteps to enter the military and makes his family proud with his accomplishments. He is promoted through the ranks in the police force as a result of his tireless pursuit of two notorious gang leaders who are terrorizing his community. He maintains a close relationship with his parents, bonds with fellow officers on the force, and pursues love.

Author E.J. Davies delivers an interesting and satisfying tale about Officer Tom Brim’s pursuit of justice. The book is a page-turner with plenty of twists and turns and action. The book is very well written. I did not notice any errors, and appreciated the author’s skill as a writer and storyteller. The storyline and descriptions are strong whether it is a fast moving gunfight scene, or a tender moment between Tom and Margaret. This book is recommended for anyone who enjoys reading action, thriller, or crime novels. It is appropriate for teens and adults of all ages.

Brim’s Justice has many qualities of a timeless classic. I could easily relate to all the major themes in the book: Brim pursuing a career he is passionate about and excels in, the unchanged dedication required in police work to identify and charge criminals, the effects on a community of notorious criminals who spread terror and violence, and the everyday challenges of balancing a career and building working relationships with coworkers to pursuing a romantic relationship.

It is clear that the author has a lot of knowledge and experience in the worlds of the military and police. The storyline involving the gangs and violence is also well researched which helps to bring Hatchet Boy and Hatchet Man to life. While reading, I could imagine the fight scenes and police tactics-taking place in present day. It was surprising to think about how much has not changed in police work and pursuing dangerous criminals in well over fifty years. I especially enjoyed reading the scenes around Brim’s kidnapping and harrowing escape. The terror and suspense kept me reading and wondering what would happen next.

The growing romance between Margaret and Brim and how he resolves his feelings for Karen add an interesting layer of drama and realism to the story. I enjoyed the interplay between his parents and his fiancé and appreciated the strong family bond and how they all continued to support and encourage each other.

Brim’s Justice is a great story that will thrill readers and keep them thinking about Hatchet Boy and Hatchet Man and being thankful that our communities have dedicated police officers committed to keeping us safe and pursuing criminals tirelessly, whatever it takes to get them off the streets and prevent terror from being part of our daily lives.
