Having personally grown up in the Greater New York area, I found Tracy Koretsky's book ropeless instantly transport me back to the time, people and places of my past. I have known people like those in her book. Her award winning novel talks in a unique voice ~ straight, objective, analytical and impressionable. It shows her breath and depth of knowledge, and her love of life. The bubbameisters (Yiddish for "Grandmother Stories") are woven together into a fabric of a cast of characters reaching to the core of human thoughts and actions, as worlds are so different for so many of us. Her characters come to life with qualities not privileged by perfect circumstances, or sculptured good looks and charm, but with disabilities, emotional problems and challenges once overcome empower the reader through the strength of others.
