Silent Cries of a Military Wife is a light read which attempts to demonstrate how freedom and self-love are important especially for married women. Myla Silence is a brave woman who chronicled her experience as an abused military wife. By telling her story, the author hoped to reach every woman who is in her type of situation, and who wishes to share her journey with the world.

“I have always longed for love and acceptance from people I knew would hurt me more than they could ever love me.” That first statement by the author triggered me. By living in this manner, she allowed herself to be vulnerable and to be used by anyone who didn’t care about her. I couldn’t blame her though, love can be a complex thing. The author explains that by wanting to be a man’s only love, she forgot herself and in the process stopped respecting and loving herself. Myla Silence didn’t have the best life – even in childhood.

The author wrote about wanting to live in beautiful houses when young, but instead lived in the projects. Her mother’s addiction didn’t help the situation either. Frances, Myla’s mother, raised her daughter with little love. “Frances had her own demons…”, the author writes. At this point, I could tell that Myla’s childhood life affected her throughout adulthood, and perhaps led her to make some of the mistakes she regretted later in life. From her story, I learned it is important for parents to shower their kids with unconditional love, despite their financial or social status.

I couldn’t help but break down at some point in the book. I empathized with Myla, and the struggles she went through. All she wanted was to be loved, yet the universe punished her for being helpless. It is a shame that her husband dragged her and caused her misery. It is sad that the military couldn’t intervene in the dispute between her and her husband. Her husband’s superiors could surely have done more to help her.

Silent Cries of a Military Wife tells the sad story of a desperate wife. Reading through the book was a heartfelt experience. Women should have more power so as to save themselves when things like relationships don’t work. I am however happy that despite all the problems Myla went through, she was able to heal at the end. Domestic violence, emotional manipulation, psychological torture and family drama are some of the issues people in relationships face.

The author however missed to add a few details which would make the reader fully connect her stories. The tales she narrated sometimes seemed to be missing an addition that could complete the story. This book is a great read regardless and has tons of lessons for women in similar situations. Through her story, the author brought into light some of these issues, which are often ignored. I applaud Myla Silence for her courage to write down her story and share with the world. Silent Cries of a Military Wife will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will hopefully inspire one who is going through similar issues to get help ,and get out of that situation. This book touches on many emotions, anger, fear, sadness, allowing the reader to really feel what the author experienced. A must read for every woman in a battered relationship and anyone connected to them.
