Synopsis

This is a how-to book. The first half is on evoked potentials from a variety of types. These are the basis for intraoperative monitoring. The second half is the actual methods used to monitor the patient during surgery. This is important to prevent injury to the patient during surgery.

About the Author

The principle author was director of EEG and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in 1971 and retired as a Professor emeritus of Neurology in 2006. In all he spent 35 years at this University.

My co-author, Stephanie Ferri came to the laboratory when she was 17 years of age. She completed her technology training at the U. of W. and joined the technology staff. Over the next few years she completed training in Evoked potentials and intraoperative monitoring. She is certified in all of the methods used in the EEG laboratory and operating room. She married Ray Ferri while he was a resident at Children’s hospital and they then moved to New Hampshire where he got a faculty job at Dartmouth Medical Center. Stephanie then headed the EEG department staff at that institution.
