Both entertaining and philosophical, Cat Tales: Da Real Pussy presents a collection of fascinating short stories, the fodder of which comes from author Mick E. Jones’ encounters with a cast of finicky felines who are the central characters of each story.

Wholly a treat to read, this novella is comprised of a compilation of four well-posed stories, each of which abounds with moments of wit, humor, spirituality, philosophy, and metaphors. Meanwhile also artfully exploring not only the author Mick E. Jones’ perspective on life, but also gives an interesting viewpoint concerning the lives of animals and their interactions within their own kingdom and with humans. Moreover, each chapter amazes as author Jones explores each encounter with different felines with very different personalities. Altogether, the tales are well told and captures the attention with well-told stories providing a detailed and literate intimacy that could only come from a person who was able to easily form bonds with animals especially – fussy but intelligent ones like cats As a matter of fact, at one point author Jones does liken himself to Doctor Dolittle, as he feels he communicates with the animals portraying them deftly and colorfully with his anthropomorphic lens.

Collectively there are four stories altogether, each as entertaining as the last, with each also respectively flowing with perceptive philosophical, spiritual, and life lesson infused musings based on the amusing heartwarming, and awe-inspiring interactions observed, between cats, other animals, and humans.

Starting out Chapter One introduces Elmo the neighborhood cool cat who connected with the author and his family working up to a daily routine to get rubs and prowl the neighborhood. What stands out in this particular tale is the portrayal of the chase between Elmo the cat and Rocky the flying squirrel. Author Jones has a well-honed talent for illustrating his stories with vivid detail giving you a sense of actually being present within the scene. Next, Chapter Two is Cool Cat, a midnight black beauty with which author Jones found himself sharing an especially strong bond with. Chapter Three, Jojo The Cat From Hell, believe me, the chapter title speaks for itself. This turned out to be a very amusing chapter. And finally, Chapter Four rounds out the cat antics with Melvan The Cat, a cat who enjoyed boxing of all things.

Overall, I loved reading Cat Tales: Da Real Pussy it was well written, insightful, and aptly shares author Mick E. Jones’ appreciation for God’s presence in all things, through his storytelling. I highly recommend this book; it was a satisfying read.
