Tomas Fullmer’s book of poetry, From the Fabric of My Mind, tells of love and loss, of joys once felt, and heartbreak never imagined. It is a life’s work; full of diverse experiences and inner awareness. The compilation touched on several emotions, as a reader I picked up on certain truths about life.

Especially, I think the writing of the is book must have been very therapeutic to the author as he struggled through finding acceptance and remembering his wife after her passing. Theirs must have been a true love story. It talks of pain and struggle, but you can also feel the immense love and times of joy that this couple must have once had. To me it painted a story of being left behind, yet finding meaning again in the life around you.

Two common themes among the poems were that of teardrops/water and the desert. Jesus wept; we weep. I imagine we have all felt alone, in a desert of vast wasteland, at some of point of our lives. However, when you stop to think about it during loneliness, there is still lots of living going on this surrounding. When I look at the two themes together, though, it is a beautiful thought. The desert is a barren place until at long last the water comes.

There are many various types of rhymes and rhythms to the poems, a variation that I enjoyed. Each poem was written a little differently and carried a different message and feeling. I felt the poems were well chosen for the overall message of the book and found the length to be agreeable. I found the writing to be both beautiful and profound. I would recommend this book to lovers of poetry and beginners alike.
