Roses are red; violets are blue; if you like this type of poetry; this book is not for you. Author and poet, going by the pen name urfavgod, has compiled a morbid yet honest and very much revealing introspective collection of his emotions, views on life, memories of love and his outlook for his future. His future may be short, as often the threads of suicide prevail within his writing; making this book both unavoidably interesting while shockingly difficult to read as one is helpless to reach out to the author – as if watching a train wreck in progress.

A self-admitted outcast from mainstream society, urfavgod portrays himself as a young adult, a victim of a broken school system, isolated for most of the day and engulfed in a revolving door of love affairs offering temporary happiness; only to sink deeper into depression upon the dissolution of his temporary companionships. Written very harshly with the use of vulgar slang; he uses it not to be insulting but demonstrating his unrestrained stream of conscientious portrayed in the vernacular of his thoughts. Simply put, this book is an impactful read.

The first thing I noticed after viewing the cover of drawings is the book is entirely printed in a reverse – white text on black background pages. I admit I was drawn to urfavgod’s reveal of his perceptions; such as the outward appearances of being fat or skinny, pimples, hair, clothing; to inward observations of truth and lies, sensory awareness of smells and absolute non-conformity to social norms, thus making this book hard to ignore. He stretches the rules of what is customary into the border of de-evolutionary thoughts, anti-everything beliefs as he trusts no one – even if they say they love him.

As society’s tributaries of social flows often end in sinkholes where outcasts conjure up observations of the rest of the world, I imagine urfavgod to be one of the black-hooded young adults; an outcast from his family, only wishing to find a place to sleep, breath and write in peace. Overdosed on stimulants from sugary soda to whatever, his writing is something one needed to live to understand. He etches into titled pages his reveals; priceless snapshots of emotions of how this element of society has been ignored to the point of being unavoidable nowadays in contemporary view. Hiding in plain sight – this poetry brings a unique yet sad way of life to people’s attention. Written as much as therapeutic outbursts of the author’s inner-most emotions, these thoughts are signposts on our society’s road to our faux path of Utopian destinations; showing how not all of us can be on the same path. I now understand how poetry can kill u. This book is raw, emotional, and from the heart. Poetry can kill u is rich with imagery & brutally honest; It is very moving on a human level.
