American motivational speaker Denis Waitley once said, “As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.” In author Paul C. Hill’s book Rise of the Chimera: The Chimera Saga, science and magic fuse together when a group of four individuals find their lives and destinies tied together by forces beyond their understanding, and face an evil no one could have known was waiting to return.

In the cross genre sci-fi book, scientist Dr. Charlene Klerk finds herself at the center of a major battle between the heroes of the world and the evil waiting to consume it, with her own self straddling both worlds. After a conference ends in bloodshed and the emergence of several unimaginable creatures, Dr. Klerk and three others who find a great power emerging from within them which must navigate a whole new world of monsters, unknown entities and clandestine groups who threaten to tear the world apart at the core.

The author does a fantastic job of creating characters readers can identify with and creating drama and situations for these characters that highlights their growth and change throughout the course of the book. One thing that readers will pick up on instantly is just how detailed the author is in the delivery of this novel. Those who love deep fantasy, sci-fi and mythological stories will appreciate the detail given about the characters and the forces they come into contact with.

This is a book for anyone who loves fantasy elements, blended effortlessly with sci-fi themes and a brand new mythology that readers can fall in love with. As a fan of all of the genres, I found the author’s ability to create a natural progression of both the characters and the narrative within these genres to be natural and fun to engage with as a reader. It’s a wonderful start to a growing mythology and a universe the author has beautifully constructed.

This is a fantastic book that fantasy and sci-fi fans will instantly gravitate towards. Filled with twists and turns for both the story and characters alike, the personal histories of each character and the mythology of the narrative will keep readers on the edge of their seat throughout this evenly paced novel.
