Shirley Smith demonstrates a loving, personal relationship with God, Jesus, and His Word as written in the Bible in her book titled Treasure From Heaven. Having claimed to read the entire Bible in one week, at that pass admittedly not retaining nearly all of its significance, she then went over the many lessons, teachings and guidance within its pages. The more she reads, the more she learned and the more she was able to associate its teachings with events and situations within her own life; as she saw the direct correlation of His Word as written in the Bible enabling her to cope with many problems.

One such example was the author’s inherent desire to own a Ford Pinto automobile. She knew this would be her car someday, yet she didn’t even have a driver’s license! The situation unfolded when she found herself in a car dealership, and as one thing led to another, she purchased the 1972 Pinto. The dealer needed to deliver the car to her house because, once again, she needed to get a driver’s license prior to driving it. God worked out the fulfillment of her wish, in a way she had no knowledge of how it would happen, yet after the details were accomplished, albeit in an unconventional sequence, she knew it was God’s work which had put that particular car in her life.

Another example dealt with conflict resolution within her working environment. God’s intervention enabled her to defuse a situation. When she had real pain and suffering, Smith sought refuge in prayer, creating a powerful peace within her knowing God was listening. She even sites an intervention of God’s will to a rather insignificant situation where she wanted to buy a pair of shoes which were more flashy and stylish, yet through God’s will the shoe salesman suggested a different, conservative pair – which worked out better.

God plays a role in people’s lives in many ways. Treasure From Heaven is impeccably written punctuated by Bible quotations and excerpts in flawless prose of honoring the messages of the Bible. Smith uses the word “God” in most every sentence within her book, therefore her writing becomes analogous to a homely of a Priest’s sermon, projecting her interpretation of God’s Word and how it becomes the guide for spiritual strength. Treasure From Heaven would be ideal for Bible study groups, as well as a comforting read for spiritual development and a way others can see how the workings of God has manifested itself within His faithful servant Shirley Smith.
