Today we are talking with Perry Smith author of “The God Experience.”

PBR:  How do you plan to put your God experience into the musical experience you are embarking on?

I have never overtly tried to combine my aspirations as an artist with my desire to teach people how to find and know God. But I have always, since I first discovered God, worked with directly with Him to aid and assist me in all my most important endeavors.

PBR:  I find the idea of acknowledging God without attaching the idea of Deity to any specific incarnation quite intriguing — have those you talk to had barriers because your message is not linked to one church or religion?

Yes indeed there are many people who find it challenging to think about God outside of the confines of the church and/or religion. But I have discovered in my years of spiritual work that there are many people who find the quest for God without those religious barriers refreshing if not liberating.

PBR:  Do you and your wife, friends or acquaintances have any religious meetings together in person?

We currently do not have formal meetings with people who are either seeking God or people who are established religiously. And while I am open to the possibility of group discussion, I have always preferred to work with people one on one when it comes to sharing the experience of knowing God with those who are curious. I have found that to be the most effective way to inform and enlighten.

PBR:  Do you think of your self as a preacher? – or as a seeker who is still finding new paths to God through your life experience?

I most definitely do not think of myself as a preacher. I do however think of myself as a teacher of spiritual truth as well as a student of life. And I still use the same “paths” or keys to God that I have always used: an open heart, an open mind and an open soul.

PBR:  Have you ever considered building a house of worship?

I have never considered building a house of worship primarily because my work spiritually has always tried to amplify God’s relation to the individual. And secondly, I feel that prayer and worship is most effective when it is practiced one on one.
