Sometimes your life can change in a blink of an eye; a sudden glance or touch changes your path in unexpected ways when you least expect it. It can lead to danger or even to love, but it almost always leads to adventure and a touch of mystery. Run From a Shadow, by author Ruth Callick is one such story. All I can advise future readers is sit back and hang on for the ride because it is going to get a bit bumpy.

Casey Hammond was simply dropping off her brother at the airport and then returning to her normal life. But fate had something else in mind for her that day. A light touch on her arm, made by two young “boys,” changed her path and quite frankly, her forever. Unable to say no to the children, who looked both tired and troubled, Casey begins on a journey full of terror but also full of self-discovery.

On what was originally supposed to be a ride to their uncle’s house, the trip morphed almost immediately into an adventure as it started taking twists and turns. There are threats, intimidation, and car chases. The children, who were sought after by intimidating men, needed more than just a ride; they need a rescue. Separated from their father, who himself was in grave danger and far away from their homeland; the pair needed to be brought to safety.

As they tried their best to escape the reality which would await them if captured, the children’s cousin Kier Jairon enters the picture, offering Casey a whole new look at reality. Immediately drawn to each other, yet often confused by the other one’s motives, this love story blossoms before the readers’ eyes. Even those of us who are cynical about love can enjoy this whirlwind romance, understanding tensions and emotions run high during this dangerous episode.

The plot of the story, with all its twists and turns is well laid out. Callick has a steady flow with her storytelling, making it entertaining and interesting to read. The dialogue is well-written and easy to follow. The anticipation of what is going to happen next is intriguing to readers and it is hard not to want to read just a few more pages. Overall, I would recommend this well-written book to anyone who loves mystery with a little love sprinkled in.
