Author T Reddy’s book, The Sucker, is an entertaining tale about a British man who overcomes obstacles throughout his nomadic life. It is a very engaging story which readers will love and has a moral lesson which will make an indelible memory to all.

The Sucker is the nickname of Lynx Ferry, a guy who leaves his hardscrabble life in the countryside after a shocking knife attack from his mother. After escaping his violent home life, Lynx gets a series of odd jobs across the U.K. Because Lynx is so kind to his fellow co-workers, he is taken advantage of by a woman, who teams up with her father, to trap Lynx into marrying her and raising her baby. After evading a local drug addict from his neighborhood who has been trying to take advantage of Lynx for years, they all meet up with consequences that change Lynx’s life forever.

The Sucker is a fascinating psychological thriller, especially the interactions Lynx has with the con artists and thieves he encounters throughout his life. Even though Lynx has had a very difficult childhood, his promise to his father to help people guides his honesty and generosity. Lynx is an intriguing protagonist, a mixture of a guileless philanthropist and a street-smart champion. He’s savvy to the scams that are being played on him, but he also at times is overly trusting and giving to other characters in the novel as well. Villainous characters like Cathy and her father Harold Dean are perfect nefarious foils to Lynx’s kind personality.

Reddy’s writing is so vivid, the descriptions of the British locales will be clearly envisioned by readers. Lynx moves around from England to Ireland to Alaska and points in between, as Reddy describes the settings with beautiful detail. Reddy also writes action-packed scenes and fast-paced dialogue which will keep readers riveted. The Sucker could easily be turned into a movie, as I could imagine a steely actor like Liam Neeson in the lead role.

The Sucker would be perfect for fans of adventure and traveling books like Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer or books about people who overcome traumatic lives. This book is a modern-day Horatio Alger novel with an edge, as in the end Lynx becomes successful through hard work and integrity.

The Sucker is an exciting novel which readers will enjoy for the thrilling action and thoughtful lessons about love, family and self-discovery. T Reddy has created a character within Lynx which will show readers that Lynx is not a sucker, but a hero after all.
