It is often said that the only true path to happiness and joy is through trials, tribulations and understanding the purpose of one’s life. As Victoria Arlen said, “The climb might be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it. There is a purpose for that pain; you just can’t always see it right away.” In author TL’s book The Vision: Look Into The Future, a series of characters showcase the power that comes with seeing one’s purpose in life and working to make it happen.

The story follows T.C., whose father John was a prominent leader in his community when a group of organized criminal leaders moved into the area, bringing crime and corruption with them. After spending too long watching the people of his neighborhood suffer, John began to make plans to stop them, but before he could he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and sent to jail. T.C. then goes on to begin a non-profit organization, working to give people in inner cities the opportunity to make something of their lives and not be forced into criminal activities in order to achieve any level of success in life.

This was a powerful read to be sure not to miss. While told in an urban fiction setting with a thriller and suspense genre feel, the story also reflects real life as well, as with the non-profit organization called Minding Our Business. The use of a fictional setting with real life problems and personal tales make this a truly one of a kind read. The only thing readers may notice while reading is the author sometimes shifts between past and present tense within the same passages, but this wasn’t enough to distract the reader whatsoever from the books message and fantastic character development.

This is a novel for anyone who enjoys thrillers, suspense, urban fiction and personal stories of men, women and children being forced into lives of crime and poverty and the work of individuals to help those affected overcome their struggles and build the lives they want for themselves. What really stood out to me as a reader was the personal feeling of each moment in the novel, as several characters were introduced and showed the struggle of their lives and the feeling of not having a choice in their own lives. It was great to see how the author connected the reader emotionally to this aspect of the story, and the protagonists work to show people they didn’t have to be beholden to the life others felt they deserved.

It was a beautiful tale that wonderfully blended fiction with reality. A truly one of a kind way to showcase and highlight real work being done in the world, this novel will instantly speak to readers and help highlight the struggles many people in inner cities face.
