TRIGGER WARNING: GRAPHIC DEPICTIONS OF ASSAULT, ESPECIALLY SEXUAL VIOLENCE, IS PRESENT THROUGHOUT THIS NOVEL. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

One of the most brutal and horrific criminal enterprises still existing in the modern era is human trafficking, especially the trafficking of women for sexual based crimes. For far too long, women have become targets of these criminal enterprises, often taken from

their everyday lives and forced into lives of brutality, drug use, and slavery. Fighting this injustice has become one of the biggest callings for law enforcement in recent years.

That fight is the driving force behind author CAL’s Robin’s Spring Day. The novel is divided into two parts. The first explores the horrifying reality Robin and her boss Carol endure when a group of men stumble upon and take them both. Enduring the horrors these men inflict on them, the two women must find a means of escaping the hell they find themselves in. In part two, a large fight against this criminal organization leads Jim to find more women being held against their will, and the hard-fought battle to overcome the horrors they experience and find a means of survival ensues.

Now there is no getting around the fact the depictions of sexual violence found in this novel are hard to read. The brutality is depicted in an honest and unimaginable way, thoroughly exploring the horrors which are often associated with the experiences women face every day. The thing that really stood out was the way the author homed in on something not everyone thinks about, which is how these trafficking rings begin. It isn’t always a major global network that begins the crimes, but local criminals and even law enforcement are often found involved in these enterprises and make it that much more dangerous for women in everyday life.

The tension, fear, and haunting emotions that the characters feel in this novel’s events are definitely felt throughout the narrative. The novel speaks to the brutality of man, and the unchecked violent nature of men with unhealthy or even evil views towards sex and women in general, and the impact that these types of crimes have on everyone, from the victims themselves to those in their lives who love them, the ones investigating these crimes and beyond, all played a role in the overall journey this story took.

Robin’s Spring Day serves as a tribute to survivors and a reminder of the urgent need to address the ongoing crisis of human trafficking. This book is recommended for mature readers that are ready to engage with difficult realities and inspired by stories of courage and transformation.
