Read Book Review

Po Boy Live by Trice Lott is a profoundly interesting memoir detailing a young man’s journey starting out with finally achieving stability in his work and home life and consistently paying his bills to a series of events that leads him down a different path. This path involves the likes of people in the entertainment industry like musicians, sports stars, and ultimately, the president of the United States.

At the beginning of this story, the author is living in Atlanta, Georgia, in an area with different gangs and unfortunately, gets caught in the crossfire of a shootout. Luckily he was not harmed by the gun, but did break his femur when running away from it. It is this event which starts his story and leads him down a new and different path. One that may seem equal parts exciting and dangerous.

During this period of his life, Lott has a feeling he is being watched. He’s not sure initially how or by whom but he is feeling off kilter because of it and wants to get down to the bottom of who is responsible for it. Over time, he learns there are cameras in his apartment through tips on social media he received from friends and even watching the news. Once he comes to this conclusion, he goes on a new journey to understand it and how it interweaves with his connections in the entertainment industry.

This definitely was an intriguing read and was interesting to read it all from the perspective of the author and what he went through. While there were some minor errors made throughout, it did not detract from the story and still was an easy yet fascinating read that you can easily achieve in an hour, maybe less. I found myself turning the pages, wanting to get to the bottom of what was happening to the author and how he would come out on the other side of it.

You may still have certain questions in your head by the end of this story, like how he was constantly being watched by so many different individuals at the same time, but it’s a question that will stay with you long after you’ve read the final page, and to me, that is the mark of an incredible story. One that keeps you guessing and eager to read more from the author.  Through setbacks and second chances, we witness the power of perseverance and the transformative force of chasing one’s passion. A stirring true story for anyone who has ever been told they couldn’t rise above.
