Determining the best course of dealing with these medications and the side effects they bring is something many people around the world are contending with right now.
Diet pills and the consequences taking them brings is a driving force in author Anthony Lee’s novel, Poison Pill. The third book in the Dr. Mark Lin Medical Thriller series, the book explores Dr. Mark Lin’s investigation into the pharmaceutical industry. As two patients begin exhibiting their own complicated health problems who both partake in specific weight loss medications, a shocking death drives the doctor’s path as he investigates a shocking conspiracy and corruption within the pharmaceutical and herbalism communities.
This is a compelling and gripping suspense read. The author does a remarkable job of keeping a steady, fast-paced approach to the story while providing plenty of medical expertise to feel sincere in its delivery. The unique voice the author writes in for the protagonist was engaging as well, as the character’s ability to communicate with others is normal and very conversational, and yet his own inner thoughts can come across as almost clinical, constantly analyzing both the situations put before him and the world around him at the same time, creating a unique character study that showed the protagonist’s analytical mindset and the lengths he is willing to go to in order to save his patients and others.
For readers who enjoy thrillers, especially those that enjoy medical thrillers and suspense, this is the perfect read for them. The powerful exploration of what is becoming increasingly prominent in the world today, weight loss drugs, and the greed that drives pharmaceutical companies around the world is greatly explored in this narrative, as is the responsibility of doctors to their patients. The twists and turns the story takes will leave readers breathless and on the edge of their seat, showcasing that perfect balance of medical exploration and heart-pounding thrills.
