In A Legacy of Principles, author Jeffrey Bernard Hicks takes readers on a journey to define how they will be remembered by their family and friends. While difficult to consider, Hicks makes it easy and even enjoyable for someone of any age or stage in life to solidify their life’s guiding principles, and how they may impact future generations. The encouraging journaling format in Hicks’ approachable tone inspires readers to reflect on life at their own pace. Though people change with age, their journal entries inspired by Hicks’ prompts allow the reader to build a tangible piece of family history that can be passed down for long-term impact.

Many fail to consider how their guiding principles shape their life, as well as the lives around them.  As families grow and build wealth, many prioritize sorting out their tangible assets, but neglect to define how they want to be remembered in the future. As children are born and families are created, parents rise to the responsibility of raising the next era.  What they choose to instill in these children will prevail – whether they intend to or not. Hicks gently eases readers into considering their values, their upbringing, and what they find most important in life. Identifying specific aspects of your belief system uncovers truths you previously overlooked. In introspection of the past, a family’s future is defined. Hicks expounds on various topics throughout the book prior to each set of questions or journal prompts.  He offers a wealth of wisdom in every chapter, making this book excellent for anyone interested in building a fulfilling life, and a legacy.

A Legacy of Principles, serves as an example, as Hicks’ workbook emerges as somewhat of a legacy as well. The author calls his readers “leaders,” motivating them to reflect on the impact of their values on their families. Hicks’ faith shines through every page, often calling out verses from scripture and encouraging his audience to use a “spiritual filter,” while reading and journaling alongside his accessible prompts.

Hicks’ book makes a wonderful gift for new parents and grandparents, as new life enters a family, everyone becomes responsible for raising the next generation.  Leaders create a tangible family history as they fill the book with their wisdom.  This written record becomes an heirloom and an excellent supplement to any genealogy project that does more than share names and faces but inspires future generations to live out the prosperity you worked so hard to build.  Through Scripture-based insights and heartfelt encouragement, this book equips readers to build a lasting spiritual legacy rooted in Christ.
