If there is one subject which remains a strong topic of division in the United States especially, it is immigration. Despite the foundations of our nation being made up of immigrants seeking a better life on this new land, and despite the fact this nation is made up of people from all walks of life, the battle between pro and anti-immigration proponents never stops. The debates and arguments over this topic sometimes lead to fierce battles and violent encounters along the boarders, and within our nation as well.

In author Geoff Cabin’s A Lonely Journey’s End: An Oceanic Park Mystery, the author explores this heated topic through lawyer Ned Johnston, who has returned to his home in Oceanic Park after the deadly events of the previous book. As he dreads the return of the woman who he worked with the previous summer, the town of Oceanic Park is hit with anti-immigration rhetoric, as a group calling itself the Oceanic Park Vigilantes begins a flyer campaign against immigration, and a wild talk-show host named Walter Braddock stokes the flames of anti-immigration within the town. Soon however, the campaign turns deadly, and Johnston must investigate the crime before it gets too out of control, and soon he discovers startling evidence that not everything is as it first appeared.

The author did an amazing job of crafting a narrative, which played well with the characters and themes of the first book. The imagery the author brought to the narrative allowed the small little town of Oceanic Park to feel alive and vibrant on the page, and the balance the author found in the characters’ everyday lives with the shock of the murder mystery and the painful rhetoric of the anti-immigration protests rocking the city made this story feel both relevant and memorable all at once. The mystery and intrigue play well here, and the pacing of the novel allows that mystery to bloom in just the right pacing.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy literature & fiction, especially those who enjoy mysteries, suspenseful novels with an element of thriller-based storytelling in the mix. The heart and captivating storytelling is equally paired with the rich world-building the author had in this book, allowing the reader to get lost in the story with ease.

Suspenseful, entertaining, and memorable, author Geoff Cabin’s A Lonely Journey’s End: An Oceanic Park Mystery is a must-read thriller you won’t be able to put down. The twists and turns in the narrative, the socially relevant themes which play on in our own society, and the shocking cliffhanger finale will keep readers hanging onto the very edge of their seat.
