Synopsis

This story is about Bud Greene escaping from an unhappy, sheltered life by going on a life-changing adventure. He starts breaking the rules he has so carefully followed, beginning with driving a Cadillac off the lot without paying for it. Now he is off on a road trip, doing what he likes, meeting an array of characters, learning about the world he has hidden from. His naivete, and rule breaking, gets him into several situations--some funny, some dangerous-- including saving a young woman from her cruel father, meeting women who teach him more than he ever learned in his dead marriage, stealing a boat and cruising through the Florida Keys, delivering a box with a million dollars in it to a ruined rich boy, and getting fleeced by a husband/wife grifter team. While meeting interesting characters and having continuous adventures, Bud ruminates about his past life and childhood. These flashbacks are funny, insightful stories that are intertwined with his journey. Bud discovers his latent artistic talent, learns about himself and, most importantly, is happy with who he has become.
