Finding one’s purpose in life can be quite a daunting task. Life can become overwhelming and hard to deal with, and in times of hardship some people seek something to fill the void in their lives which they need in order to gain understanding or clarity about the things happening around them. For some, that comes from earthly pursuits, such as family, friendship, work, and service to one’s country. For others, it takes a more spiritual journey, from subscribing to a specific fate to studying all things “paranormal” and everything in between. For others still, there is a balance to be had for both.  As Deepak Chopra once said, “Enlightened leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight and focused attention.”

In author R. Dax Maurice’s Emancipation from Salvation, the author shares a personal story of spiritual growth and the self-discovery changed their life. Living as a chiropractor, the author experienced a turbulent point in his life where he lost everything that mattered most to him, and this experience forced him to re-evaluate his life. Taking his history and introduction into religion at an early age and discovering a more powerful spiritual journey that awaited him, the author will take readers beyond the boundaries of the physical realm and into the spiritual awakening that swayed him away from religious dogma.

The author has crafted a memorable and thoughtful reading experience which does an incredible job of bridging the gap between memoir storytelling and spiritual-awakening writing. The author was able to find his voice in the writing and make it feel personal and connectable as a reader, while also showcasing a spiritual journey which opens one’s senses and brings them to a different yet more personal connection to the Universe itself. I appreciated the author’s approach to the topic, giving readers a unique experience setting itself apart from other spiritual non-fiction reads, by showcasing the differences and discoveries his journey made in connection to God.

This is the perfect read for anyone looking for a nonfiction book which delves into memoir storytelling and includes spirituality as a whole, rather than specific religious practices. I found the author’s experiences fascinating to read about and the personalized storytelling to be quite compelling to dive into as a reader.

A heartfelt, engaging, and thought-provoking read, author R. Dax Maurice’s Emancipation from Salvation is a must-read book for fans of non-fiction spirituality and memoir books. The short yet passionate read does a great job of balancing out the backstory of the author himself with the spirituality he experienced along the journey, and the author’s ability to connect with readers through his relatable writings style made this an enjoyable experience.
