The book we have on our hands today, Harry and the Stock Tank Dragon, is a captivating adventure fantasy which delivers everything you expect from the genre with a dab of a few good magical twists. It’s a classic tale of adventure through fears with a massive climax. Harry is a smart yet unexcited boy who moves from the city to his Grandpa’s Texas ranch against his will. The situation that Harry thought was ‘the whole world against him’ doesn’t take long to change for the better. Not only does he begin to enjoy the ranch life, but he also finds some extraordinary company nearby that takes him on an unexpected journey into the unknown. The book explores the themes of family, friendships, magic, and determination. And dare not think it’s all amusement and excitement! The risk is real.
Harry and the Stock Tank Dragon takes the readers to a world that’s going to seem relatable to most of us until we page to the fantasy bit of it. This is where readers are going to stop reacting and start wishing (most definitely). It’s a massive surprise in the middle that changes the course of the story in a way we couldn’t imagine. So, what is the twist about? Well, that we can’t reveal – you will need to read to find out.
Authors Webster Russell and Dee Coffeen, take an unhurried and exciting path to explore Harry’s struggles and transformation. Language is easy to understand, and the stitching isn’t wavy – something that’s become a norm in fantasy writing. The simple writing style and tone give the book a classic 80’s feel. The chapters are appropriately sequenced – and their length is well under the attention span of most readers. In addition, the reading showcases character development that’s fabulous to read despite not being rather deep. Additionally, what adds to this is how wonderfully the authors explain the surroundings. You almost feel as though you are eavesdropping on the conversations. Lastly, the hook is maintained till the last chapters. Simply put, you can’t put it away until after you have read all of it. It’s some gripping fantasy!
By the looks of it, some might feel it’s a read meant for kids and early teens, but that’s not correct. Harry and the Stock Tank Dragon is meant to be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages. We’d recommend you pick this one next if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted tale woven with an intense adventure for curious minds and dreamers.
