He Was About to Betray His Oath! is a fast-paced book that readers will enjoy as the book takes them through different eras of time. This mix of historical fiction and action/adventure will draw readers in to Rodney Searcy’s compelling tale of love and intrigue.

The book opens in 1930’s and 1940’s Hitler-era Germany when Nazi major Wilhelm Strausvon escapes to the United States after the end of World War II. Forty years later in 1980’s New England, Drug Enforcement Agency agent Thomas Allen is sent to arrest Donna Murphy, a drug trafficker that he plans to arrest – but then falls in love with her during his undercover mission. His life intertwines with Murphy and Strausvon’s lives in ways he couldn’t have imagined. Allen is forced to choose between his duty as a DEA agent and his growing love for Donna.

He Was About to Betray His Oath! features complex characters that drive the novel. Thomas is a brave protagonist that is a conflicted hero that readers will root for

throughout the book. Donna is more than a stereotypical femme fatale and is a fascinating foil for Thomas. Even the antihero character of Wilhelm is a character that will cause readers to ask thought-provoking questions about forgiveness and whether people can escape their past.

The settings in the novel also help to add more to the story. World War II, an era Germany is brought to life by showing historical figures like Adolf Hitler as he gradually rose to his reign of terror in the 1930’s. Later, 1980’s New England is shown against the backdrop of President Reagan’s War on Drugs. Both settings help to illustrate the times the characters inhabit.

Searcy’s writing mixes fast-paced action with romantic intrigue in a unique way. He Was About to Betray His Oath! Is a combination of an aggressive crime story and tender romance that both male and female readers alike will equally appreciate. His writing He Was About To Betray His Oath would be perfect for fans of spy novels and action/adventure novels by Tom Clancy or James Patterson. Fans of World War II fiction like Atonement by Ian McEwan or contemporary fiction like Jodi Picoult’s The Storyteller that deals with the war will enjoy this book as well.

He Was About To Betray His Oath! is a short novel that will stay will readers for a long time. Rodney Searcy has combined two worlds that readers will want to visit for an unforgettable experience.
