Author Kristin M. Glenn’s book revolves around Shaila, a top-shot attorney, and her husband, John, a successful Pediatric Cardiologist. To everyone, they are the perfect couple, passionately in love and successful in their careers. However, their blissful marriage takes a dangerous turn and causes them to reevaluate themselves, and their relationship, when Shaila’s ex, Marc, re-enters her life as her firm’s most prestigious client. Shaila and Marc dated in college, but she broke up with him when he cheated on her. Ten years later, he still believes she is the only one for him. As someone who is used to having his way, he is determined to do anything to reclaim her, even though he knows she is happily married.

The easy-flowing dialogue of the characters moves the story forward, and disquieting revelations come to the fore, exposing disturbing secrets. Although the book focuses on Shaila, John, and Marc, their friends and family support its narration by helping them unearth the plot to destroy their marriage. However, their assistance is not without its danger, as Marc proves to be a dangerous character who does not mind resorting to illegal methods to have his way.

The narration is fluid, maintaining a steady momentum and unearthing bits of information gradually to provide answers while maintaining its intrigue and keeping readers in suspense. Shaila and John’s love and passion for each other is clear to see, as they often indulge in explicitly detailed love-making sessions, leaning towards erotica. Shaila also plays the role of an amateur detective with the help of friends and strangers, putting her life on the line to save her marriage.
