In a world full of chaos and hardship, one of the most important things a person can hold onto is hope. The light and promise of joy hope represents is often what gets us through each and every day. The promise of a better tomorrow or the hope of a brighter future can help to battle the shocking global events we read about constantly or the personal defeats in our own lives which can leave us shell-shocked without that hope fueling our drive to continue forward. Yet what happens to a person who is stripped of all hope?

In author Peter A. Hubbard’s The Tears of Hope: Book One of the Trilogy, the author explores the painstaking reality of what happens to a person devoid of all hope. After a series of terrifying and horrific terrorist attacks on global monuments and seats of power rock the international community, an Interpol agent is sent on a mission to uncover the truth behind the terrorists behind the attacks as they become the world’s most hunted fugitives. Yet when the investigation uncovers groups of children, refugees who were taken out of camps and placed into “loving” homes, only to become the world’s most hunted criminals, the agent must discover the truth behind these terrorists’ actions and how far they are willing to go if she is to stop them from unleashing more death and terror on the planet.

The author did a tremendous job of crafting a narrative which felt detailed and captivating all at once. The shocking opening chapters of the book highlighted the sheer volume of terror these criminals unleashed upon the world, and helped add to the confusion and pain when suddenly confronted with the haunting pasts of these criminals. The action and intensity of the plot balanced out the depth of relationship building that occurred with this cast of characters, from the protagonist’s own traumatic past that brought her into the field and into a life of government and military service, to the tragedies which befell the children who would become the faces behind the movement which these terrorists fuel their campaign with.

This is the perfect novel for those who enjoy mysteries, thrillers, and suspense reads. The book definitely speaks to those who enjoy a healthy blend of international, political, criminal, and military thriller novels involving modern-day (and even some futuristic) tech and criminal activity. As a fan of this genre, I was enthralled with the author’s writing and was even more moved by the rich themes developed in this book, including the heavy look at the morality behind those who are radicalized or brainwashed into committing such heinous actions after having witnessed or experiencing their own brand of injustice early on in life. The cycle of violence and destruction plays a major role in this thriller.

Haunting, engaging, and thought-provoking, author Peter A. Hubbard’s The Tears of Hope: Book One of the Trilogy is a must-read suspense thriller readers won’t be able to put down. The shocking twists and turns and detailed look into the life of these characters made this a heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled read that will help launch a fantastic new mystery series.
