There are times in life that have a way of taking us on adventures — and misadventures — that are out of our control but are still deemed to be our destiny, good or bad. And the thing about destiny is it cannot be changed because it is our true fate. That is a pivotal theme in “The Time Has Come” by Brock Bodenschatz. In his novel, we meet three sets of people, all from different walks of life, yet all interconnected by their past.
First we meet the determined treasure hunter and his wife, a Voodoo Priestess who has an abundant amount of knowledge of where their journey is heading and knows there is nothing they can do to change it. Peter Winthorpe has been after this treasure for some time and plans to get it no matter what. Little does he know they have a harrowing time ahead of them and there are others who have their eyes on the prize in question.
Then there’s the group of three men off on their own adventure, forging their own path, that is until they encounter a ghost ship. When they later connect with Winthorpe, they learn of the treasure he seeks, ultimately becoming determined to find the same treasure as they continue on their journey. While they have no idea what truly awaits them, they have high hopes for what they seek. But at the same exact time, our last group of misfits — known for grave robbing — are on the same path, heading their way and are dead set on getting what they want, which also includes revenge.
The characters are all incredibly well-fleshed out and make you that much more excited to see how their stories individually end. It is an action-packed tale full of descriptive imagery that makes you feel as though you are right there on the high seas with them. The foreboding nature of the Priestess’ premonition will leave you waiting on bated breath to see the ultimate climax of the story. The way the author seamlessly interconnects all of the characters’ pasts makes that final showdown a truly masterful depiction of a frightening and shocking confrontation between these three groups of people we’ve come to know over the course of these fast-paced chapters.
This is a treasure hunt and a ghost story all wrapped into one and makes for the absolute perfect summer beach read. You won’t see the end coming so run, don’t walk and pick up your copy of “The Time Has Come” by Brock Bodenschatz today!
