There is much more of a community than belonging. It’s about togetherness, and working as a team which makes belonging matter. One of the fascinating things about it, is that it helps us care about others in a way which we could not have done as individuals. When we work together and share our responsibilities, we can welcome many people even those in danger or those that need a home, and perhaps help them find solace and hope to live on.

Ting!: A Silent Warning is a luminous and original text with a blistering plot by author Tawnee Chasny. Lilly is an artist living in a cabin on the mountainside which she had inherited from her grandparents. Joanne, on the other hand, a fifty-five-year-old widow, whose husband had passed away the previous year, had only been living in her “A-Frame” house for three months and the place was a real home for her. She had wanted to get away from all the memories and the crowded city. The two were now neighbors and good friends as they had found out earlier when Joanne had moved next door to Lilly, that they had a lot in common.

The lives of the two elderly women and the residents of the quiet mountain region are suddenly upended when a ruthless criminal gets out of jail and is ready to kill anyone who is on his path to recover what he lost before he went to jail. Lily and Joanne find their lives on the stark and dangerous trail of the ex-convict and have to depend on each other to increase their chances of survival.

Given Chasny’s flair for plausible characters and cinematic prose, this thrill-filled fast-read is creativity at its best. That the story is short but full of suspense, and red herrings across the pages is an added bonus. This cozy mystery novel touches on the pensive, hope, and trepidation with supernatural influences culminating in a good mix of sizeable amounts of entertainment.
