Far more often than not, history is the greatest teacher of all. For within the past, those
in the present and the future can see the actions and events which defined an entire
era, and learn from the mistakes and the triumphs which that era held. Whether it is the
impact war has on the world, or the actions which turned good people into great
leaders, history is the ultimate teacher that can hold the key into the future. Yet can
history also be the catalyst for understanding one’s faith as well?

In author Peter Durbin’s What’s Really Going On?, the author explores world history and
uses it and the teachings of the Christian faith to see the groundwork for the future. In
the book, the author explores the evolution of human history, exploring everything from
ancient battles to wars in the Middle East today, climate change and more being used
as a means of control. The author also pursues lessons taught within the Bible to help
secure the blueprints for how the future will unfold, and the Biblical context for which
these blueprints can be secured.

The author does a remarkable job of writing in a tone that speaks of honesty and true
faith. The balance between the historical nature of the book and the more
spiritual-driven lessons was great to see, and the depth of detail the author went into
when delving into the past was very thought-provoking as well. This included chapter 7,
in which the author went into detail on the limited resources debate, showcasing how a
lack of resources can become a bitter divide that tears people apart from their faith. The
juxtaposition of history and religion in the world with modern-day events is a major
theme the author brought into play in this book.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy history, in particular world history and the
relationship history has with religion and spirituality. This book is definitely written for
more conservative, faith-based readers, who are looking for words of encouragement
for their faith and seek to bridge the gap between history, modern politics, and religion
as a whole. The clear cut and driven aspect of the author’s work and the direct ways in
which the author spoke to those readers who lean more conservatively will keep
readers invested in the author’s work
