While it may not always be easy or evident, hardship is a major component in every person’s growth and evolution in life. Hardships are one of the building blocks of our society, with every hardship a blueprint to show how we arrived at the next step in our lives. As Harry Emerson Fosdick once said, “He who knows no hardships will know no hardihood. He who faces no calamity will need no courage. Mysterious though it is, the characteristics in human nature which we love best grow in a soil with a strong mixture of troubles.”

In author Joann Klusmeyer’s  5 Smooth Stones, the author explores the concept of hardship and its importance in our lives through Taking a religious point of view and studying the King James Bible, the author presents the concept of hardship forming our lives through religious poetry that explores stones, and how they are polished by rough waters and being tossed around until the edges smooth.

Another fantastic piece of writing from author Joann Klusmeyer. The poetry is beautifully written, and does an amazing job of not only playing out the infamous stories from within the Christian Bible, but highlight each story’s struggle and hardship in itself. From Adam And Eve being forced out of the Garden of Eden due to greed, to the times in which the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus by forcing him to pay taxes, this poetry covers so much of the Bible within such a short poetic narrative.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy poetry, particularly poetry with a Christian or other religious aspect to it and poetry that captures the essence of the King James Bible overall. While I myself am not religious, I found the concept of overcoming great struggles to overcome great odds and become the best version possible of ourselves an intriguing and heartfelt concept.

A masterful, engaging and beautiful work of poetry, author Joann Klusmeyer’s 5 Smooth Stones is a must-read for people who follow the Christian Faith, as well as poets in general. The author perfectly captures both the stories and the lessons that the King James Bible teaches those that follow the faith, and adds beautiful and creative writing that highlights the emotions those stories come with as well.
