The meaning of “to persevere” is an understanding that giving up due to odds not working in your favor is not an option because we refuse to quit. Building the strength to power through life, no matter what, allows us to prove to ourselves just how strong we are. Doing this gives you a brand-new outlook on your capabilities, knowing that you will rise above anything trying to destroy and take you down. The perseverance a person can possess is admirable, given they believe in their purpose and are overall grateful. We must learn to make life as enjoyable as we can, despite all we go through. The perspective of a person does not translate well to what another person experiences. Having a healthy faith system, believing in a higher power, aids people through struggling times. As long as you hold on tightly to your faith, life can be tackled without much effort because you would place that in the hands of your creator.
In Endeavor to Persevere, author Rev. Dr. Karen L. Holgersen beautifully wrote daily reminders in the form of chapters, letting the world know we are all the same. Whether the cards we were dealt with led us down an easier life path or had to learn lessons through struggles, everyone is doing their best living on this earthly plane. From the first quote by Buddha, you immediately grasp what this book’s focus is, knowing you are seen. It encourages people to see the brighter picture and to live life in the present, rather than robbing their joy by living in the past or future. With the many eye-opening topics discussed, it will spark moments of truth. Once a person embraces it wholeheartedly, they will come to an understanding that it is all provided in a loving tone. The author would want nothing more than for their fellow men and women to embrace whatever life throws at them, taking the challenge, learning from them, and growing into a better version of themselves. Embarking on life may feel like a difficult journey, but it doesn’t always have to be.
Few topics were highlighted and discussed with clarity, leaving the reader feeling understood, as everything mentioned is relatable. For example, growth was a topic that shed light on working on yourself on a consistent basis. Forgiveness reminds us that when we forgive, it reduces the weight of unnecessary baggage we carry upon our shoulders. With life comes happiness and experiencing the five stages of grief because loss is inevitable, but to keep going is a choice. Someone could be facing difficulty, yet have a light shining brighter on them, knowing things will always get better with time. Life is a beautiful gift granted to us by God, not so much dependent on what occurs, but how we react and handle tough times is what matters most. Although we know life is short, the opportunities to learn while building relationships with others are important.
The author shared situations that occurred in her life to further support relatable topics of past experiences yet showed she has grown from them. When she talked about mistletoe leaves on her porch, it would remind you of how important our experiences are in this lifetime. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to experience all the good things that life can offer, but we must remember that doing our best is the best anyone can do. The quotes from Buddha before every new chapter were a nice touch, especially for those who are not familiar with his teachings. To read the percentage of what we make of life versus how we react can say a lot about a person. It could be possible that those who understood their assignment would use more of their energy making an exceptional life experience for themselves and those they love.
I enjoyed reading the comforting, non-judgmental words of the author, as I know she wrote this book to help people grasp the understanding that we must live our todays and nows. Many of us around the world are going through a tougher period in our lives, nowadays more than ever, and this book is a great reminder that things happen for a reason. We are told not to dwell on the things we cannot change, but to pour our energy into the things we can change. What we react to by giving away our power is what will grow stronger. If we focus only on the negative circumstances, that is all that would become of our lives. These reminders are refreshing, adding how much a stranger can care and love you more than those closest to you. This compelling read will uplift your spirit, strengthen your faith, and remind you that your journey, no matter how challenging, is worth continuing. I would highly recommend this book because there is a lot of guidance one can learn and apply in your life.
