You never know when someone will change your life, sometimes it’s good and sometimes…not so much. Jimmy Jaxon is your average college student who sometimes goes to class, enjoys the weekend life and just learns what life is all about in general. Enter Katarina, or Kat within the Dark Agenda world. One minute “Jax” is trying to juggle school, friends, parties, and his love for gaming, the next he is thrust into a dangerous world of technology, conspiracies and even experimental drugs after Kat is kidnapped. Jax finds himself doing things in real life that he only did within the realm of the game. Jax must decide how far he will go to save her and ask if finding the truth will change who he is.
Right off the bat, author CD Miles draws readers into the story with a stealth mission and then jumps right into Jaxon’s tales. Miles does not hold back descriptions, making this the perfect book for readers who thirst for all the information down to what the characters like to eat. The chapters are short as are the sentences, giving the story a fast-paced feel. There is a lot of quantum physics information that makes it hard to follow along without any prior knowledge of the subject.
CD Miles gives readers a thrilling ride as Jax races around the world trying to rescue Katarina. Dark Agenda weaves self-discovery and finding out what courage is with questions about ethical uses for technology like AI, teleportation and more. The ending was perfect, leaving the door open for potentially other books with these characters, but also answers all the questions and seemingly wraps everything up.
Fans of science fiction as well as suspense thrillers would enjoy this quick read. It has a lot of action and adventure in a few pages and could easily be expanded into a bigger novel. While there were some minor spelling errors in my copy of the novel, this is a solid story and will gain fans for CD Miles. Personally I have found there is a lot of potential for future novels sitting in this book. Dark Agenda is a pulse-pounding sci-fi thriller where nothing is as it seems, and everything is at stake.
