In medicine, doctors prescribe antibiotics to inhibit the growth of and hopefully destroy bacteria in the course of treating infectious diseases. Colonel Don Wilson’s The Antibiotic an Ailing America Needs posits that such a cure-all exists for the issues currently plaguing America. Wilson puts forth the simple theory that faith and Christian education will inhibit the growth of and hopefully destroy negative forces pushing America towards collapse.

Wilson served his country as a career solider and became a businessman in retirement. With strong convictions both political and religious, Wilson started up a blog to help spread his message. After receiving heavy traffic on the site, he decided to collect his posts into this novel in the hopes of reaching a larger audience.

The book is short and condensed into chapters that discuss America’s founding, important historical figures, and most importantly the role of Christian faith. Each chapter covers a specific topic and connects it back to the thesis that a Christian education specifically is the antibiotic to right all the wrongs. Fitting to the thesis, the book is pro-Christian with little acceptance of anything else. Readers who immediately agree with the author will find no issue here, but some of the essays were a little aggressive towards non-Christians that will make it difficult to connect with at times.

The Antibiotic an Ailing America Needs presents a collection of blog posts that seek to fix America by turning to a strong Christian education and work ethic. Those who agree with that will find a sympathetic ear and be very inspired by this book. Others might have trouble following along with an occasionally combative and closed-off narrative to any other option but the one presented.

Overall, Colonel Don Wilson writes with passion and conviction. The author moves you to take action and becomes part of the solution. I recommend this book to anyone believing that America can be restored.
