Between Tomorrow and Yesterday: Tripping into Nowhere behind Nothing is a beautifully written book by Ev’one-yaY Eulasson that features two plays, Sleep No More and Buy the Bi and Bye, written by the famous actor and prolific writer, Felton Perry. Perry is most notable for his roles as Deputy Obrah Eaker in the 1973 movie Walking Tall, and as Inspector Early Smith in the 1973 movie Magnum Force, the second film in the Dirty Harry series.

Author Perry has published his work as Ev’one-yaY Eulasson and has based his writing on his theatre experiences over the years. Sleep No More is a musical comedy inspired by Shakespeare’s classic, Macbeth. The lyrics present in the play are Felton’s while the music is composed by Gary Brooks. Set in three distinct playing areas namely the banquet hall, King Duncan’s chamber, and the corridor outside Duncan’s chamber, author Felton uses his rich imagination to add depth to his characters away from the play Macbeth. The palace intrigues, treachery, and conspiracies are both thrilling and fascinating to read.

Buy the Bi and Bye, on the other hand, is a satirical play of the black theatrical expression that takes place in a small theatre. This play takes place in an off-mainstream theater in May 1976. Further, the author adds some robust characters in the play that brings out a touch of modernity in the present-day readers’ minds.

Set in the 70s, this play is in the inside of another play, Killin’ Flo’, brings out the Black culture and their struggles during that period. The author has done a remarkable job using Shakespearean language and the black people’s argots in Sleep No More and Buy the Bi and Bye respectively. This adds to the authenticity and realness of the plays.

The author’s ability to enthrall the reader with transparent discourse makes this work successful. This gives readers the capability to cut across different periods in time and envisage this era and its intrigues. Initially, I had trouble memorizing the initials of the characters used across the pages but I later picked up as I continued reading the beautiful plays.

Between Tomorrow and Yesterday: Tripping into Nowhere behind Nothing by Ev’one-yaY Eulasson is certainly a spectacular, masterful piece of art that will resonate with all lovers of dramaturgy and stage performances.
