Two charming stories about individuals assigned to tasks that are undoubtedly beyond their wildest expectations are found in author Dee Carey’s Fox Tales Anthology II.

As for the first narrative, it is just a series of unfortunate events in the life of a young man, Sean, who has always longed to be a part of something worthwhile. His life seems to take a new direction with the entrance of priest St. Patrick, whose physical characteristics mirror his aspirations. He does not realize, though, that the priest’s involvement in his life affairs will have far more dire consequences and force him to live a life which is not typical for a human person. He is put in a more difficult predicament when the Holy Father invites them both on a mission which tests the limits of his new identity and his abilities, and which leads him to question what benefits his new form might have for the church.

In the second tale, LaRoux encounters the world’s greatest sorcerer while looking for the person who killed his mother. The sorcerer informs him that he has been chosen to do a mission which would help the Druid Ordination. He discovers further that he and his partner, Merlot, are a selected pair and working together to complete this task is more crucial than restoring his family’s honor. LaRoux is unaware, though, that this assignment may put the person he loves the most – after his mother – straight in the path of his mother’s killers.

These tales captivate the reader with their profound themes of romance, magic, and terrible betrayal. Enthralling scenes occur in both books, such as when LaRoux starts to worry his partner is carrying a child by someone else. This begs the issue of whether their connection – which provided the impetus for their mission- will be destroyed. “Trust equals faith, which leads to love.” This epistemic fact is eloquently shown by the lovable and outstanding main characters. They also exhibit love, which the author feels is the fundamental lesson of all religions, as well as bravery, support, resiliency, and affection.

Dee Carey’s Fox Tales Anthology II is a thought-provoking, entertaining, and deserving source of inspiration for all young adults. It is outstanding, having everything you could expect from a fantasy romance: intrigue, mystery, and a wide range of emotions. I highly recommend this book!
