Often It has been said that laughter can be great medicine, and with society at large still struggling with many in need of healing, perhaps by adding a humorous read to one’s health regime would be a smart idea. Laughter itself can be a release, an escape which produces “feel good” endorphins, which do well for your mind, body and soul. And with that being said, one such humorous offering comes from the mind of author Ben Sheldon, a book of jokes, appropriately titled Lotsa Laughs: Funny Side of Everything.  In essence this work offers humor seekers many chuckles, as well as just as many eyebrow wrinkles and head shakes.

Quickly engaging, brimming with an intriguing culmination of witticisms, dry humor, irony and jokes all of which have been culminated from years of author Ben Sheldon’s personal notes.  Essentially, the book is divided into eight titled sections/chapters, with each housing a particular genre of humor, varietal and far reaching in scope, spanning topics like; Politics can be funny too, Fun with Words, Chuckles from Everywhere, Ethnic, Tongue Twisters, Belief, as well as Bedroom humor. However, while some of the included quips do well to tickle the funny bone, others may not. As a matter of fact, consider this as a gentle pre-warning, this is a collection including jokes which may be of a sensitive nature to some with the inclusion of jokes about gays, pedophilia and Alzheimer’s patients.

Moreover, this is a work which proffers a diversely humorous journey with jokes that span not just years but generations with some of the jokes, particularly, reaching far back into history, with humor concerning focal points such as Barbarians, Noah, Lincoln and even classical composer Joseph Haydn. Also, many of the jokes include jabs at cultures with jokes including; Jews, Pakistanis, and Turks, just to name a few.

Overall, Lotsa Laughs: Funny Side of Everything by author Ben Sheldon, offers some truly funny jokes, puns and word twists. I found the section/chapter titled “Fun with Words” to be very enjoyable with my favorite being the one about “space donkeys.”  Ultimately and for the most part, the entire book made for an engaging read even with the inclusion of some of the harsher jokes, because there were far more funnier jokes throughout the book. Putting contentions aside, this is a book which would make a nice read for when you need a quick laugh, or pick-me-up.
