For any successful entrepreneurship, the search for the perfect balance is something everyone goes through as they start their business. One of the most essential things a business owner or leader can have is efficient communication. As motivational speaker Paul J. Meyer once said, “Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success.”

In Solving the People Problem: Essential Skills You Need To Lead and Succeed in Today’s Workplace, authors Brett M. Cooper and Evans Kerrigan take on of the biggest changes young and successful workers find when they are promoted or tasked with their own leadership roles within their business.  That is moving from an individual standpoint in business to a larger team leader role; where you are in charge of several people with varying personalities. The heart of this book is emotional intelligence, where the authors showcase how to identify not only other personality traits, but the personality and emotions of oneself as well, and lays out a framework for how to bring these varying personalities together.

The authors do a fantastic job of blending a truly authentic and personal voice to the writing itself while giving readers a detailed and guided account of the practices and behaviors needed to utilize while taking on a leadership role and taking over as a leader. The focus on emotional intelligence was one of the biggest draws of the book early on, and the authors do a great job of exploring the various differences in personalities on a business team, and how to find the right resources to highlight when searching for ways of bringing teams together. The amount of detail and examples the authors provide to readers as they set up their business model for leaders today were inspiring to see, as it helps readers see practical uses for the techniques they are teaching in this book.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction books, especially those which focus on business, communication within business, workplace culture and self-improvement overall. As someone who has begun a process of becoming their own entrepreneur, I found the techniques and tools the authors provided a truly helpful insight to incorporate into my future when I someday may lead a team of my own.

Thought-provoking, informative and an evenly-paced read, authors Brett M. Cooper and Evans Kerrigan’s Solving the People Problem: Essential Skills You Need To Lead and Succeed in Today’s Workplace is a must-read business-driven book. It both leads to better productivity for your business and helps to drive employees and team members to come together for the betterment of your business. An invaluable tool for any up-and-coming leader or entrepreneur, this is a phenomenal book that would benefit so many people in the business world.
