There comes a point in time in every person’s life where they struggle to find the words and purpose to their lives. The hardships and struggles we face as a society often blur the lines between what the world expects of us, and who we truly are as individuals. It is when we find that path and individualism that our world has meaning and impact. For some, it is pursuing a career which is important and meaningful to them. For others, the answer comes from faith, and their belief in their preferred higher power.

This is the path of exploration readers can expect in author Linda Gallagher’s The Distant Lighthouse. The book explores the loss of identity and purpose we all feel at one time or another, and the path it takes to return to who we are inside. Utilizing the story of a lighthouse who has lost its way, the book follows the lighthouse’s efforts to discover what they have lost, and the impact the lighthouse keeper has on discovering their purpose once more.

The author did an incredible job of capturing the essence of life itself. There always comes a point in one way or another where a person starts to feel adrift, as if they have lost a part of themselves and have no real means of getting it back. Sometimes it takes a change in their routine, while others need someone to come along and help remind them who they’ve always been. The insight and inspiration the author’s story takes readers through allows the readers to find their own lighthouse keeper, whether it is a higher power or someone who has a major influence on their lives.

The illustrations were filled with warmth and allowed the overall message to be felt on every page. The book will speak to a number of readers out in the world; from those who come from a faith-based background to those looking for inspirational stories, and those who enjoy illustrated reads which can speak to both children and adults on a fundamental level. The honesty and hope infused into the narrative and the fast-pace of the book both combine to give readers an engaging story readers will be able to identify with immediately.
