The Kurdish Woman by Luis Rousset rivets with a passionate and sizzling storyline between two characters emanating from different cultures and religious beliefs.

Author Luis Rousset begins by introducing the protagonist, John Davenport, an American soldier who finds himself lost in thoughts regarding a Turkish lady, Arya, who he has strongly fallen for despite her Islamic background. John can’t help but feel sorry for himself for allowing himself to be wooed so quickly by the irresistible charm and beauty of the young woman. His mother sounds concerned about his mental stability and firmly warns him against developing deeper feelings for the girl since she was already engaged and ready for marriage to her diplomatic fiancé, Homer. It is certain for readers that the varying customs, habits, and values would be a challenge for the two and maybe, as has been suggested to the protagonist, it is time that he should look for true love among his people.

The focus quickly shifts to Arya’s uncle’s office where she has been invited for a job opportunity which will see her join one of the most secretive security organizations in the country. Arya finds herself convinced by her uncle that she owes her country a duty of service, and though the invitation is too fast, Arya is sure of her need for a breath of fresh air which will see her explore the world and rejuvenate her ordinary self. However, a meeting between John and Arya ends up revealing their suppressed but undeniable passion for each other, and an unforeseen twist sets the stage for a compelling romantic ride.

The characters in this meticulously written novel will be appealing to many readers due to their engaging dialogues, relatable arguments, and identifiable reactions to difficult situations. Readers will also quickly identify with Arya’s situation where many people have found themselves torn between pleasing their parents/cultural expectations and following their own paths and heart desires.

In conclusion, The Kurdish Woman by Luis Rousset will arrest a reader’s deep emotions and ably stir a personal reflection on what they would do if placed in a similar setting. The author has offered a commendable presentation regarding the features of true love and the extent of sacrifice and devotion that should be exhibited. This book is highly recommended!
