Wisdom Betrayed: David, Bathsheba and the Man Behind the Throne by author Don Clifford is a deeply imagined fictional piece which seeks to disclose well-hidden facts about the renowned King David and Bathsheba’s relationship, as seen from the author’s ingenious lens.

Clifford begins by reminding readers of the accuracy of the Holy Scriptures, and then carefully brings to their attention the existence of hidden concepts and motives an ordinary eye may not see. In that regard, readers will want to walk with the author to the end, as he unravels more of what is commonly known about the two characters.

The topic of David’s advancement in years was one of the debates going around his city, especially after preferring someone else other than himself to lead during battle. His advisors led by Ahithophel had noted his mysterious change in habit of seeking counsel from Nathan, and other competent advisers. All were pointing to a downward spiral dive for the once devoted ruler. Ahithophel would get more confused and bitter after receiving disturbing news from one of his mentees, Hesel, regarding David’s inquiry about his granddaughter, Bathsheba. It would further be disclosed that the king had not only summoned her but had asked everyone else to leave the two alone, for a longer period than it would normally take for any king’s official business. Would that have been the reason behind David’s absence in the most recent advisors’ meeting?

This text has ably covered one of the most iconic betrayals in the Bible, by transporting readers to ancient times, through the author’s inventive ideation and creativity. It is a read that will invoke different emotions such as sympathy and anger, through different scenarios such as when helpless and vulnerable persons are taken advantage of by the strong and mighty in the land. Nevertheless, it is an exposition readers will find highly illustrative and thought-provoking, and able to make one think differently about their issues while questioning their assumptions and viewpoints.

Wisdom Betrayed: David, Bathsheba and the Man Behind the Throne is a winner in the Christian fiction category, owing to the author’s articulation of Biblical events, and theological justifications. By the end of the book, readers will find themselves implored to appreciate the loving kindness of God over them, and the availed mercy to anyone who recognizes their sins and mistakes. Very enlivening!
