Looking for a high-stakes wildlife crime thriller interspersed with a variety of intriguing characters and full of wit and dry humor throughout? That is precisely what you’ll find when you dive head first into Limited Edition: A Poacher’s Endgame by author Prakash Dighé.
There is something already altogether exciting about an action-adventure mystery novel set in Nairobi and specifically in the wildlife game reserves in Kenya. But then you add in an insanely thrilling crime plot and you have me officially seated which was my exact reaction when I began reading this novel. Set with the backdrop of wildlife reserves, we meet our protagonists Jay and Heidi. They find a briefcase full of cash on a lonely road at night and must make a decision of what to do with it. Ultimately, they decide to take it which unfurls a series of tense and chaotic events due to their actions. They soon find themselves in the crosshairs of a ruthless poacher, who may not be the brightest, but will stop at nothing to get what he feels is his. They also are being sought after by a corrupt official which only makes their journey that much more frightening as they try to make away with the money. Meanwhile, a detective from Scotland Yard has come onto the scene to investigate the mysterious death of a British tourist. Soon, they will have their paths crossing in ways they never imagined.
The author does an excellent job at creating a fast-paced and thrilling crime adventure that you will find impossible to put down to be sure. I found it especially intriguing meeting all of the different characters that range from the local police, to politicians, to British Expats, to thugs, to our protagonists of this story, Jay and Heidi. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and has a wittiness that is also much appreciated for levity throughout.
An interesting thing about this plot as well is it will keep you guessing between different suspected groups of people while also not delving too far into the gory details of poaching. But rather, what is it that happens when the perfectly planned poaching goes off the rails instead?
